Graduate Applications

DEADLINE EXTENDED to JANUARY 15th, 2013

Application to the SFSU Creative Writing Graduate Program is a TWO PART PROCESS.

PART ONE: CREATIVE WRITING DEPARTMENT APPLICATION, four components.

1) One Creative Writing Department M.A. or M.F.A. application form (depending on which program you are applying to), submitted (mailed or hand-delivered) in hard copy with your manuscript sample. M.A. form (pdf); M.F.A. form (pdf). The appropriate form must be printed out, filled in and submitted (in hard copy) with your manuscript.

2) One manuscript sample of your work (EITHER 15-20 pages of prose, OR 15 poems, OR 1 play: either a finished play of any length, or 20-25 pages of dramatic writing. -Theater plays only! Film scripts, radio plays, or television plays will not be considered.) You must submit a writing sample in the genre in which you are applying. Staple or paper clip your manuscript, and put your name on it. Again, the manuscript sample must be accompanied by either the Creative Writing Department M.F.A. or M.A. Application form. NOTE: changes, substitutions or additions to your manuscript will NOT be accepted! Your manuscript cannot be returned. Don't send your only copy.

3) One unofficial copy of all college and/or university transcripts. Transcripts may be sent directly from the college and/or university or from you.

4) Two letters of recommendation. No special form is necessary. Letters may be sent directly from the letter writer. Must be submitted (mailed or hand-delivered) in hard copy.

PART TWO: CSU APPLICATION FOR GRADUATE STUDY, three components

1) One CSU Application for Graduate Study, submitted online at http://www.csumentor.edu (The statement of purpose/personal statement is included in this online part of the application. If your statement of purpose/personal statement is longer than the space provided in the online CSU Application for Graduate Study, you may simply enter the phrase “sent directly to the department,” and send it in with part one.)

2) CSU Application fee; approximately $55.00

3) One set of official transcripts for all college and/or university coursework. Have college and/or university mail your official transcripts to
